There are 43 million forcibly displaced people worldwide with hundreds of thousands of refugee families scattered across the globe. Before 2008 all family tracing was done by refugee agencies, which still rely on paper forms and postal systems to try to locate people. There was no online global data bank that could be accessed or used by refugees themselves. That's why we created REFUNITE.

At REFUNITE, we believe everyone has the right to know where their family is. With more than 60 million people forcibly displaced worldwide, families are torn apart every day due to conflict, famine and disaster. All too often they end up in different parts of the world, afraid, alienated and alone. Joining forces with a wide range of partners, REFUNITE set out to change the process of family tracing. By creating a user friendly, online global database of over 450,000 profiles, users can now search for their missing loved ones with the click of a button.
